QUICK: WHAT was the most you recently accomplished over the course of eight days?

The high achievers who took part in this year’s Crazy8s didn’t just finish short films in that period of time, but created fully-realized productions, spanning fantasy-horror flicks to thought-provoking meditations on body shaming and being gay. (Each year, the fest funds and supports the eight-day filmmaking challenge for emerging filmmakers.)

Check out the six top results at this year’s Crazy8’s gala screening, happening Saturday night (May 7) at the Centre, with a legit red-carpet after-party at Science World.

This year’s offerings include Consumer, Stephanie Izsak’s comedy-horror story of a 13-year-old who’s tormented by toxic beauty standards and stumbles across a disturbing way to lose weight; Shakil Jessa’s Imran and Alykhan, about two boys who fall in love at a Muslim camp, where they have to keep their relationship a secret; Kenny Welsh’s horror-fantasy The Faraway Place, following a horned young woman and her father, who are being pursued by a violent cult; Alireza Kazemipour’s The Gold Teeth, about an Afghan refugee who makes an unusual request of an Iranian dentist; Derek MacDonald’s Undeveloped, centering on a war vet who has a buried secret; and Kay Shioma Metchie’s Weeds Are Flowers, Too, a black comedy about a young newlywed who will go to extreme lengths to have the best garden on the block.

Enjoy them all at the screening, and then celebrate the fact some talented people's ability to get things done quickly afterward.
