The Richmond Museum presents Doors Open Richmond on June 6 and 7 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at 45 locations across Richmond

BROADLY SPEAKING, Metro Vancouver is the most culturally and linguistically diverse region in British Columbia, with Richmond taking the crown as the most diverse city within that region.

With a population where more than three quarters belong to a visible minority, it’s no wonder that the folks at the Richmond Museum are keen to showcase the city’s rich cultural tapestry.

Presented by the Richmond Museum, Doors Open Richmond is a free annual event that gives residents and visitors an opportunity to learn more about the people, places, and histories that shape the city. This year’s edition features 45 participating sites, ranging from art studios and national historic sites to working farms and faith-based organizations, each reflecting different aspects of Richmond’s communities and history.

Since it began in 2008, the event has recorded more than 269,000 visits to museums, places of worship, cultural organizations, food and beverage businesses, civic facilities, and other sites throughout Richmond.

In addition to some returning favourites—Britannia Shipyards National Historic Site, Richmond Art Gallery, the Steveston Museum and Post Office, Richmond City Hall, and of course the Richmond Museum itself—this year’s edition of Doors Open features five new sites welcoming in-person visits:

  • Alexandra District Energy Utility

  • Branscombe House

  • Marion Webber Fine Art

  • Richmond Arts Coalition

  • Richmond Potters’ Club

It’s worth noting that, while most programs are available on a walk-in basis, a few sites require advance registration, so it’s a good idea to check the site map before you head out to explore.
