Polynesian dance, including hula, hits BC Culture Days, to October 24
The aim of local company Spirit of the South Seas is to promote cultural awareness through performance
Exciting World of Polynesian Dance—Entertainment and Fitness takes place online as part of BC Culture Days to October 24.
UKULELES, DRUMS, AND grass skirts of Hawaii, Tahiti, and other islands of the South Seas: The Spirit of the South Seas Polynesian Dancers—Hula Halau Na Keiki 'O Ohana Lokahi has been promoting cultural awareness through performance throughout the Lower Mainland for more than 50 years.
The company brings its music and dance to BC Culture Days with the virtual presentation Exciting World of Polynesian Dance—Entertainment and Fitness.
They’ll take viewers on a journey through Polynesia with graceful hulas, ancient traditional kahiko chants, rhythmic percussion, ukulele, poi balls of the New Zeland Maori, and more.
Their year-round Hula For Health program, meanwhile, promotes physical fitness through the dance form characterized by undulating hips and gestures symbolizing natural phenomena or mythological subjects.
