The Vancouver Chamber Choir presents Christmas by Candlelight, its annual holiday concert, at Pacific Spirit United Church on December 19 at 6:30 pm and 8:30 pm.

Audiences are invited to let the warm glow of flickering candles transport them to a realm of peace and tranquillity as heavenly voices emerge from the darkness to sing stories of the season.

The program this year includes Morten Lauridsen’s “O magnum mysterium”, an expressive motet set to a Gregorian Christmas chant; and Joanna Marsh’s “In Winter’s House”, which is set to a poem by Jane Draycott that describes a child’s winter dream. The choir is also singing Canadian-Finnish composer Matthew Whittall’s “Love Came Down at Christmas”, which is set to the poetry of Christina Rossetti and serves as the fourth installment of his carol cycle Christmas Hath a Darkness: Four Carols for Advent.
