Vancouver International Dance Festival unveils 18-show livestream program from March 4 to June 19
Company 605, Ne Sans Opera & Dance, Lamondance, Vidya Kotamraju, CAMP, and Toronto’s Yvonne Ng adapt works for virtual realm
THE VANCOUVER International Dance Festival has announced it will make the leap to livestream for its 21st annual production, running March 4 to June 19.
VIDF has provided the technical resources for six companies to reimagine their work for the multiple cameras that can be switched live in the KW Production Studio. There will be 18 shows in all broadcast from the Gastown space. Prices are pay-what-you-can.
The program kicks off March 4 to 6 with the dreamlike duet Hourglass from Idan Cohen’s Ne. Sans Opera & Dance; it stars dancers Racheal Prince, Brandon Lee Alley, with Leslie Dala at the piano. April 29 to May 1, the fest livestreams Brimming, a solo by Joshua Martin of Company 605, that first debuted at Dancing on the Edge last year. LONGING… by local bharata natyam dancer Vidya Kotamraju, broadcasts May 6 to 8, followed by In Search of Holy Chop Suey and Weave...part one, personal looks at immigration to Canada and the role of women in Asia by Toronto’s Yvonne Ng of tiger princess dance projects (May 20 to 22). WANTED, the cowboy and Wild West exploration by Vancouver’s CAMP plays May 29 to 29, then Before Dawn, by contemporary-dance unit Lamondance and choreographer Davi Rodrigues, streams June 17 to 19.
