VSO to release recording of final live concert of its 2020-21 season featuring Steven Page, Kevin Fox, and Craig Northey, July 6
The in-person show will live on online
VANCOUVER SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA capped off its season on a high note with a handful of live concerts to limited if elated audiences.
To close out 2020-21, it recently hosted singer-composer Steven Page, composer-cellist Kevin Fox, and guitarist-vocalist Craig Northey in front of a small, appreciative crowd. The performance gets released on July 6 at 7:30 pm PDT via the TheConcertHall.ca presented by TELUS.
The set list includes classic Canadian songs, including some originals by Page and the Barenaked Ladies, as well as covers of tracks by Leonard Cohen, the Tragically Hip’s Gord Downie, and John K. Samson of the Weakerthans.
VSO associate conductor Andrew Crust leads the orchestra.
Page is a member of the Canadian Music Hall of Fame with his former Barenaked Ladies bandmates. He has gone on to release five solo albums and tour extensively throughout the UK and North America with Northey and Fox.
Fox is a multi-instrumentalist who has composed arrangements for the likes of Jim Cuddy and Justin Bieber and has recorded with artists ranging from Celine Dion to Chantal Kreviazuk. Northey, meanwhile, is a founding member of Canadian rock band Odds who has composed for film and TV and worked with Rosanne Cash, Colin James, Jimmy Rankin, Wide Mouth Mason, among many others.
