Lima, Peru–based band Novalima is fusing traditional Afro-Peruvian rhythms with electronic, dub, reggae, salsa, and global beats in a performance at the Rickshaw Theatre on April 26.

Novalima’s music bridges cultures and generations, uniting audiences through infectious rhythms and a deep connection to the band’s roots. As transcendent as the group’s six recorded albums are, the real excitement of Novalima comes from seeing its musicians play live. For more than two decades, the Latin Grammy–nominated band’s performances—in clubs as well at top festivals worldwide—have solidified its eight members as pioneers in modern Afro-Peruvian music.

Sharing the Rickshaw stage with Novalima for this show is Vancouver’s own Empanadas Ilegales, a hypnotic ensemble that plays psychedelic cumbia and salsa infused with tropical heat and Andean spirit.

Presented by BlueShore at CapU, Rickshaw Theatre, Vancouver Latin American Cultural Centre, and Caravan World Rhythms, this show starts at 8 pm. Tickets are available through the Rickshaw.
