Audain Art Museum presents season 3 of Tuesday Night Talks beginning January 11 at 8 pm for free via Zoom.

IT’S DYNAMITE: TNT is back for its third season at Audain Art Museum.

Hosted by Curtis Collins, the museum’s director and chief curator, Tuesday Night Talks takes place live via Zoom, offering viewers a virtual visit to the Whistler-based arts venue as well as to the home or studio of the featured artist whose work is part of the AAM’s permanent collection.

The series’ third season kicks off with an appearance by Levi Nelson (Svpyan), a New York-based artist and member of the Lil’wat Nation.

Nelson will discuss two works in AAM’s collection: 2019’s Nations in an Urban Landscape, oil on canvas; and his contribution to The Three Watchmen. The latter is a cast bronze sculpture by Haida Chief 7idansuu James Hart that sits atop a concrete base encircled with a carved aluminum band entitled The Great Flood (Ti A7xa7 St’ak’), by Nelson and Squamish Nation artist Xwalacktun. The monumental work was installed outside the museum this past fall.

A graduate of Emily Carr University, Nelson is currently pursuing a master’s of fine arts at Columbia University. While he may be best known for his painting, he has increasingly gained attention for his printmaking. Nelson links Indigenous social, political, and cultural concerns from the past to the present in his work, which has been shown at Whistler’s Maury Young Arts Centre, Museum of Anthropology at UBC, and Bill Reid Gallery of Northwest Coast Art.

Viewers are encouraged to submit questions for Levi upon registration in advance, in keeping with TNT’s interactive format.

AAM has also made available for viewing TNT’s second season. The finale features Dana Claxton, a Vancouver-based multimedia artist who works in photography, video, film, and performance who talks about Paint Up #1, a 2009 C-print on archival paper featuring Joseph Paul, a ceremonial dancer in the Salish tradition from the Musqueam Reserve.Other artists who appeared in the second TNT season include Attila Richard Lukacs, Dempsey Bob, Angela Grossman, Christos Dikeakos, and James Hart.
