Vancouver Civic Theatres presents a Visual Arts Open House in the lobbies of the Queen Elizabeth Theatre from 5 to 8 pm, with an artists’ talk at 6:30 pm

VANCOUVER CIVIC THEATRES is swinging open the doors to the exhibit Disrupted Narratives, a show of three artists who use a uniquely similar process in the lobbies of the Queen Elizabeth Theatre.

On August 9, you can tour through art created with layers of paper adhered to wood panels and altered, distressed, abraded, and reworked—all by the Transformations Art Collective’s work by Olga Campbell, Dorothy Doherty, and Jane McDougall.

Through their hands-on experimentation, each artist ends up working literally and thematically with ideas of time and change, with diverse results.

Many of the works hover between realism and abstraction, recognizable forms combining with dreamlike geometric shapes.

Campbell draws on experience working across an array mediums, including mixed media, photography, sculpture and digital photo collage and uses alternative processes in much of her work. Doherty examines issues including urban decay, global issues, and the beauty of the world around us. McDougall, a potter-turned-artist, layers, paints, and sands her compositions.

This free event includes a 6:30pm artists’ talk and live music by Louise and Greg Weir throughout the event.

And, as ever, you can view the exhibition at shows at the Q.E. through September.
