Vancouver Symphony Orchestra presents Nielsen’s “The Inextinguishable” at the Orpheum on January 30 and 31 at 7:30 pm.
Written against the backdrop of the First World War, Nielsen’s Symphony No. 4, “The Inextinguishable”, stands as a beacon at the onset of the 20th century. From its thunderous opening to one of the most stunning finales of the orchestral repertoire, the symphony comes to a grand close with a triumphant and enormous affirmation of life itself. Pianist Orli Shaham then joins maestro David Robertson for John Adams’s wickedly entertaining piano concerto Must the Devil Have All the Good Tunes? in its long-anticipated Vancouver premiere.
A free pre-concert talk takes place on January 30 at 6:45 pm in the Orpheum’s Lower Left Balcony. Lobby doors open at 6:30 pm.
This concert is part of the Assante Vancouver Centre Masterworks Diamond series. Tickets and more details are available through the VSO.
