FOURTEEN PIANISTS, plus cellists, a harpsichordist, a guitarist, and a Scandinavian folk ensemble are all on the roster as the Vancouver Recital Society announces details of its 2026-2027 season.
The society’s 47th season, centred mostly at the Vancouver Playhouse, features such celebrated pianists as Minsoo Sohn, who kicks off the season September 27. Elsewhere on the program are keyboard stars Sir András Schiff (December 6), Leif Ove Andsnes (March 14, 2027), Paul Lewis (October 25 and April 18), Behzod Abduraimov (February 28), Filippo Gorini (October 18), and Lucas and Arthur Jussen (May 1). Lukas Sternath and Mishka Rushdie Momen will make their Canadian debuts on the series, January 24 and February 7, respectively.
String players in the lineup include violist Timothy Ridout returning for a performance May 9 with pianist Federico Colli, and violinist Stephen Waarts joining forces with pianist Juho Pohjonen on April 4. Violinist Chloe Chua will make her Canadian debut with pianist Julien Quentin on February 21, and, on cello, Luka Coetzee will make her VRS debut with pianist Jon Kimura Parker on November 1. Elsewhere, cellist Jonathan Swensen returns to the VRS with pianist Juho Pohjonen on April 11.
Young early-music talents from France, harpsichordist Jean Rondeau and Jupiter Ensemble will perform on the VRS stage November 15 at Roy Barnett Recital Hall and November 29 at the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts, respectively.
And genre-defying Scandinavian ensemble Dreamers’ Circus, known for its blend of Nordic folk with classical lyricism, jazz improvisation, and pop energy, hits the Playhouse April 8.
Other highlights include the partnering of mezzo-soprano Ema Nikolovska and guitarist Sean Shibe, who bring their innovative Orlando project to the Chan Centre November 8. Baritone Benjamin Appl and accordionist Ksenija Sidorova, meanwhile, bring their Breath and Bone to the Playhouse March 7.
