The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra hosts Rachmaninoff’s Second Symphony from March 13 to 15 at the Orpheum.
Anchoring the program, maestro Otto Tausk leads the musicians of the VSO in a performance of Rachmaninoff’s towering Symphony No. 2, a piece overflowing with lush melodies and sumptuous orchestrations.
French-Canadian cellist Jean-Guihen Queyras tackles one of the 20th century’s most important additions to the cello repertoire, Tout un monde lointain… (A Whole Distant World…) by French composer Henri Dutilleux. And rounding out the offerings is Canadian composer Michael Oesterle’s La Chapelle, a musical tribute to Montreal’s architecturally stunning Bon-Pasteur Chapel, which is a designated national historic site.
Performances take place on March 13 and 14 at 7:30 pm as part of the Edward Jones Masterworks Gold series, and on March 15 at 2 pm as part of the RGF Integrated Wealth Management Symphony Sundays series.
Visit the VSO for tickets and more details.
