From January 23 to 26, Vetta Chamber Music is welcoming pianist extraordinaire Jane Coop and international cello soloist Ariel Barnes to the stage alongside artistic director Joan Blackman.
The last time this group performed together was during Vetta’s 2016–17 season. For this upcoming presentation called Music to Warm the Heart, Barnes chose works by two Canadian composers dear to his heart: one by his father, Milton Barnes; and another written for him by his composer friend Michael Oesterle, whose work is virtuosic and multilayered, yet extremely listenable.
The program also includes Brahms’s Violin Sonata in G major, which features a heartbeat-like ostinato that weaves its way through the entire first movement. Rounding it out is Mendelssohn’s Piano Trio in C minor, a piece rich in maturity and depth.
Concerts will take place at West Point Grey United Church, West Vancouver United Church, Pyatt Hall, and ArtSpring on Salt Spring Island. Visit Vetta Chamber Music for tickets.
