Tord Gustavsen Trio performs sublime Nordic jazz at Christ Church Cathedral, March 17
Acclaimed ensemble’s impressionistic sound is inspired by blues, gospel, Scandinavian folk, and church music
Tord Gustavsen Trio
Norwegian pianist and composer Tord Gustavsen is on a constant search for honest beauty in his music. With each of his performances and recordings, he strives to deliver a holy trinity of qualities: elegance, emotional intensity, and meditative sound.
During a concert at Christ Church Cathedral on March 17 at 7:30 pm, Gustavsen’s trio will perform music from its latest record, Seeing. Featuring percussionist Jarle Vespestad and bassist–electronics manipulator Steiner Raknes, the album brims with innovative approaches to sound and technique. The three musicians combine their talents to create intricately textured improvisations and understated melodic hooks.
The trio draws its sound from Scandinavian folk music, weaving it with jazz, blues, gospel, and church songs. Audience members can expect Gustavsen—who has released 10 albums to date—to bring spiritual depth and intimacy to the stage.
Tickets for this concert, presented by BlueShore Financial Centre for the Performing Arts, are available here.
