Chan Centre for the Performing Arts hosts Omar Sosa and Seckou Keita's SUBA Trio, March 13
Musicians celebrate ancestral connections to Africa with a unique fusion of genres
SUBA Trio
Omar Sosa and Seckou Keita are bringing their soulful SUBA Trio to the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts on March 13 at 7:30 pm.
With music spanning the Atlantic, SUBA Trio is a collaboration between Afro-Cuban composer-pianist Sosa—a four-time Grammy nominee—and Senegalese kora master and singer Keita, who are joined by Afro-Venezuelan percussionist Gustavo Ovalles. Their album SUBA celebrates their shared ancestral connection to Africa, creating an unforgettable sound.
Sosa, who blends jazz with his Afro-Cuban roots, received a lifetime achievement award from the Smithsonian Associates for his contributions to the development of Latin jazz in the U.S. Keita, meanwhile, was recognized by BBC Radio 2 as “Folk Musician of the Year” in 2019.
SUBA Trio fuses genres with adventurous style, effortlessly weaving between musical traditions. The musicians’ upcoming Chan Centre performance will feature songs from their album as well as dynamic improvisations.
Tickets are available through the Chan Centre.
Post sponsored by Chan Centre for the Performing Arts.
