EMMY-WINNING Bob’s Burgers writers Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin brought their offbeat, low-key humour to the Belcher clan for years.
Now they’re turning their talents to another oddball animated Fox family in a new sit-com called The Great North, which debuted Valentine’s Day. The series follows the Alaskan adventures of the Tobins, headed up by a single dad. His only daughter, 16-year-old Judy, has left the family fishing board and into the glamorous world of the town of Lone Moose’s local mall, while the youngest, Moon, is a 10-year-old boy with an affinity for a bear costume. The show features the vocal talents of Nick Offerman, Jenny Slate, Will Forte, and—wait for it!—Alanis Morissette as an imaginary friend. The animation, as you’ll recognize, comes courtesy of Bob’s animation studio Bento Box.
In this VIFF Creator Talk, showrunners and executive producers Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin take a deep dive into what it actually takes to bring to life an entire animated TV series.
