The Maple Ridge Pitt Meadows Art Studio Tour, the largest art tour in the Fraser Valley, returns for its 25th anniversary this Mother’s Day weekend.
On May 10 and 11 from 10 am to 4 pm, attendees can visit over 100 artists in 31 different locations across rural and urban Ridge Meadows. The tour is free to attend, and visitors can also purchase pieces directly from the artists; prices range from just $5 to more than $100.
Artwork spanning a wide variety of styles—from realism to abstract, and functional to decorative—will be on view. The mediums used include ceramics, 2D comics, stained glass, jewellery, woodwork, sculpture, photography, and painting.
Among the artists participating in the tour is painter Sultana Mariam, who holds a master’s degree in fine arts from the University of Chittagong, Bangladesh. She has had notable solo exhibitions in Delhi, Dhaka, and Vancouver, where her vibrant use of colour and intricate details have earned her critical acclaim. Elsewhere, 2D storyteller Matthew McGreevy illustrates social-support comics that serve neurodiverse people and their families by providing information, contingency mapping, and social-thinking strategies. More participants involved are City of Maple Ridge artist in residence Alex Neff and photo artist Kim Wright.

Locations for this year’s tour include 29 private artists’ studios, the Albion Community Centre, and South Bonson Community Centre. These settings are just as unique as the art itself, with some locations among cranberry and blueberry fields with the majestic Golden Ears mountain peaks in the background. Locations in town centres are close to restaurants and coffee shops, while others are on nearby acreages.
This is a unique opportunity for folks to celebrate Mother’s Day and support local while increasing their understanding and appreciation of multiple visual art forms. Most importantly, the Art Studio Tour is self-guided, giving visitors the chance to experience joy at whatever pace they please.
Planning a visit is easy using the interactive map, and artist biographies and mini portfolios are also on view at artstudiotour.ca. Be sure to keep up with the latest details by following the event’s Instagram and Facebook pages.
