Alliance Française Vancouver presents Public Art: From Maquette to Territory, a solo exhibition by French-Canadian sculptor Marie Khouri, from February 28 to March 23.

For over 30 years, Khouri has developed a sculptural practice rooted in public space, situated at the intersection of language, architecture, and politics. Her permanent works, installed throughout B.C. and internationally, reconfigure the experience of place.

This exhibition marks Khouri’s return to Vancouver after more than a decade. It focuses on maquettes—liminal, fragile objects that are usually unseen by the public. These original scale models of the artist’s monumental works reveal the earliest stages of each project as intention, gesture, form, and meaning emerge.

At the heart of the exhibition is a full-scale work destined for permanent installation in 2027, allowing it to be observed before its absorption into the city’s urban fabric.
