A Seat at the Table Artist Tour with Paul Wong takes place May 18 at 5:30 pm via Zoom.

ACCLAIMED LOCAL CHINESE-Canadian multimedia artist Paul Wong is leading a virtual tour of A Seat at the Table: Chinese Immigration and British Columbia as part of the explorASIAN Festival. The event is the latest installment of the monthly virtual tour series at Museum of Vancouver (MOV) and takes place on International Museums Day, May 18.

A Seat at the Table  (which opened late last year at MOV in partnership with UBC) looks at Chinese immigration to B.C., using food and restaurant culture as an entry way. The sweeping exhibition highlights the diversity of immigrant experiences and the communities that immigrants develop.

Wong will share personal insight into several of the works he created or adapted for the exhibition and will also talk about a few of his favourite historical objects. A short Q&A will follow.

With its sister exhibition in at the Hon Hsing Building in Chinatown (presented by the Chinese Canadian Museum Society of BC), A Seat at the Table, on view at MOV until January 2022, is one of the largest museum projects on Chinese Canadian history and culture in Canada to date. It includes an extensive and ongoing oral history project while offering fresh perspectives on migration, diaspora, cultural representation, and more.
