The Shadbolt Centre for the Arts hosts You used to call me Marie…, an Arts Club on Tour presentation, on November 5 at 7:30 pm and November 6 at 2 pm and 7:30 pm. The production by Savage Society and NAC Indigenous Theatre celebrates Métis song and dance with a love story of historically epic proportions.

You used to call me Marie… paints the story of Marie Callihoo through generations and time. The play follows Iskwewo, Napew, and Mistatim (“horse” in Michif) in eight intertwined stories while the Métis nation emerges across the plains. Through a timeline that spans from the fur trade of the 1930s into the present day, audience members witness the love and resilience of generations of Callihoo women.

This intimate play by Tai Amy Grauman is robust in scope. It features era-spanning dance and live music that ranges from French fiddle to contemporary country.

Tickets are available here.
