The Improv Centre on Granville Island presents The Set List with Ben Elliott and Anton Lipovetsky on April 17 at 9:15 pm
IN REAL LIFE, Ben Elliott and Anton Lipovetsky are two Vancouver-based theatre-makers and musicians who have been collaborating with each other since the time they were students together at Studio 58; but in an upcoming show at The Improv Centre, they’ll be playing the roles of international rockstars.
The Set List combines all the best elements of Inside the Actors Studio, the long-running celebrity talk show on which the late James Lipton interviewed everyone from Steven Spielberg to Angelina Jolie, with Behind the Music, VH1’s documentary series that profiles big-name bands and musicians among the likes of Metallica, Neil Diamond, AC/DC, and Tina Turner.
Using audience suggestions to create number-one hit singles, Elliott and Lipovetsky will come up with improvised sets in an evening of true musical comedy hosted by actor-writer-comedian Mark Chavez, who recently played the unruly goth Skunk King in East Van Panto: Beauty and the Beast. The whole ordeal takes place on April 17 at 9:15 pm.
There are plenty more offerings on The Improv Centre’s calendar this month. Check out Theatresports: Unhinged on Fridays and Saturdays at 9:30 pm beginning April 19, where teams compete in a chaotic comedy battle with a mischievous host and rule-breaking players. Plus, Vancouver comedian Lukas Parm hosts Stand-Up at The Improv, an evening of local and touring stand-up comedians, on April 28 at 7:30 pm.
Audiences can also catch regular shows Choose-Day (Tuesdays at 7:30 pm) and Date Night (Wednesdays at 7:30 pm) at The Improv Centre all month long. ![]()
