Vancouver Civic Theatres presents Sunset Cinema with Barbie on August 7 at dusk on šxʷƛ̓exən Xwtl’a7shn (formerly known as Queen Elizabeth Theatre plaza)
SUMMERTIME CALLS FOR nights under the stars, and that’s where Vancouver Civic Theatres is hosting its annual Sunset Cinema series. Taking place on šxʷƛ̓exən Xwtl’a7shn (formerly known as the Queen Elizabeth Theatre plaza), the event featuring free screenings kicks off on August 7 with Barbie.
Starring Margot Robbie as the titular character and Ryan Gosling as Ken, Greta Gerwig’s fantasy-comedy film follows the couple as they have a chance to leave Barbie Land and live in the real world with real humans—and real problems. Also appearing in the movie—the first live-action Barbie flick—are America Ferrera, Michael Cera, Kate McKinnon, Issa Rae, Rhea Perlman, and Will Ferrell.
Viewers are invited to dress in pink and pose inside a life-size Barbie box.
The series runs Wednesday evenings through August. Other screenings are E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial on August 14; The Fall Guy on August 21; and Wonka on August 28.
People are welcome to bring blankets, chairs, pillows, and pets. ![]()
