Gateway Theatre presents Kat Sandler’s Wildwoman, a daring twist on regal history produced with Alberta Theatre Projects, from March 26 to April 4.

Wildwoman follows the story of Catherine de Medici, the young newlywed of King Henry II of France, who thinks her life at court will be a fascinating forum of political discourse. Instead, she finds the palace a cruel and disturbing place where her singular function is to be a baby-making machine for male heirs. The only kinship she finds is with a paperback-romance-hot wildman with head-to-toe hair who’s kept in the dungeon as part of the king’s caged-oddity collection.

The man’s friendly, feral presence gradually awakens Catherine’s own wild side—and once she unleashes it, no one is safe from her vengeful wrath. Based on the shocking true story that inspired Beauty and the Beast, this seductively funny saga takes Sandler’s trademark rapid-fire wit for a thrilling ride.

Wildwoman is directed by Jamie King and features a talented cast including Synthia Yusuf, Nathan Kay, N Girgis, Elizabeth Barrett, and Connor Suart.

Tickets are available through Gateway Theatre.
