HERE FOR NOW is a cross-disciplinary art event that hosts boundary-pushing experimental work in unconventional spaces. Coproduced by Slice Next Door (1636 Venables Street), volume 3 features The Biting School, Nancy Lee 李南屏, and Mohammadreza Akrami on May 20 and 21 with shows from 6:30 to 8:30 pm and 9 to 11 pm, with a social hour from 11 pm to midnight. The artists will explore ideas of touch and intimacy, sentience, and selfhood through experimental theatre, sound, and contemporary dance.
Co-founded by Arash and Aryo Khakpour, The Biting School draws on history, literature, and philosophy to look at challenging social and political issues in their theatrical works. Lee is a Taiwanese-Canadian interdisciplinary media artist, curator, filmmaker, DJ, and cultural producer. Born in Tehran, Akrami is a dance artist based in Montreal and Toronto.
With options to sit, interact with the work, or come and go from the performances, audiences are invited to move through the evening as they wish. Slice of Life's gallery shop will be open, carrying wares by local artists and makers.
