Irish double bassist and composer Caimin Gilmore is joining internationally acclaimed artists Kate Ellis and Lavinia Meijer for a Music on Main presentation. Taking place at the Roundhouse Community Arts and Recreation Centre on November 3 at 7:30 pm, this evening of music moves between contemporary classical, folk, experimental sound, and electronics.
At the centre of the program is BlackGate, Gilmore’s debut record; released in 2025, the album features genre-fluid compositions for double bass, cello, harp, and synthesizer. The musicians will also perform works by Philip Glass, Gabriella Smith, Anne Cleare, and Benedict Schlepper-Connolly, alongside Meijer’s own compositions.
Known as one of Ireland’s leading young double bassists, Gilmore emerges as a new compositional voice, building captivating sounds as he experiments and allows music to flow freely. He has recorded on the opening track of Leonard Cohen’s posthumous Grammy-nominated album Thanks for the Dance, and with Blur and Gorillaz frontman Damon Albarn on his solo record The Nearer the Fountain, More Pure the Stream Flows. Gilmore has also collaborated with such artists as Robert Plant (Led Zeppelin), Justin Vernon (Bon Iver), Aaron Dessner (The National), Anais Mitchell (Bonny Light Horsemen), Phoebe Bridgers, Shahzad Ismaily, and more.

Irish cellist Ellis is artistic director of the world-class new music group Crash Ensemble. She has collaborated with, commissioned, premiered, and recorded works by numerous Irish and international composers, and continues to push musical boundaries while performing with a diverse range of musicians.
Dutch harpist Meijer is the only classical artist to have hit the top 10 in the Dutch rock album charts with three consecutive albums. Her recording of Philip Glass’s Metamorphosis went platinum in the Netherlands. She tours extensively and performs solo concerts in venues worldwide, from New York’s Carnegie Hall to the Berlin Philharmonie.
This performance at the Roundhouse marks the start of a multi-year collaboration between Canadian and Irish artists, leading toward the Canada-Ireland 180 commemoration in 2027. Over the coming seasons, Music on Main will bring artists together to share ideas, create new work, and build lasting connections across the Atlantic.
