The Vancouver Chopin Society presents the Silesian String Quartet on April 15 to May 15 at 7:30 pm
WHEN ASKED TO name a 19th-century Polish piano virtuoso and composer, people naturally answer Frédéric Chopin.
But the 1800s also saw a much lesser-known talent flourish in that country: Juliusz Zarębski. And now, the world of virtual concerts is allowing Vancouver audiences to hear one of his masterworks for the first time.
As part of its online programming, The Vancouver Chopin Society is presenting pianist Wojciech Świtała with Warsaw’s acclaimed Silesian String Quartet in a performance of Zarebski’s Piano Quintet in G minor, Op. 34.
The quartet has travelled the world and ranks as one of the leading chamber ensembles in Poland. Świtała, too, has performed around the world, particularly celebrated for his Chopin repertoire.
The concert is free, with donations welcomed.
Check out the video below for more information on Zarębski, who was also greatly admired and influenced by Liszt.
