The Vancouver Bach Family of Choirs is celebrating the holidays this year with two events: the Bach Christmas Oratorio and the annual Christmas With the Bach Choir.
On December 6 at 7:30 pm, join the adult symphonic singers of the Vancouver Bach Choir at St. Andrew’s-Wesley United Church for a rare opportunity to experience Bach’s Christmas Oratorio performed in its entirety. The piece features jubilant trumpets and passionate singing performed with vocal soloists and the Vancouver Bach Choir Chamber Orchestra.
For this event, conductor Leslie Dala will lead the artists, including four talented Canadian soloists: soprano Chloe Hurst, mezzo-soprano Emma Parkinson, tenor Colin Ainsworth, and baritone Aaron Durand.
On December 7 at 2 pm, all nine ensembles from the Vancouver Bach Family of Choirs will unite for Christmas With the Bach Choir, a festive choral event at the Orpheum. With a diverse choral program that includes an audience singalong, the concert promises to be a wonderful winter afternoon of music and merriment. It is designed to be a welcoming event for folks who celebrate all sorts of holiday traditions, and is sure to warm hearts and spirits in a grand theatre setting.
Organist Michael Dirk and the Touch of Brass Quintet will amplify the holiday magic onstage as nearly 500 singers perform, led by conductors Dala, Marisa Gaetanne, Cathrie Yuen, Shane Raman, and Catherine Campolin. Five pianists will also play during the concert: Stephen Smith, Kin Ming Wong, Shifra Day, Jeon Mok, and Aslan Aslanov.
Celebrating its 95th season, the Vancouver Bach Family of Choirs offers exceptional choral education to individuals of all ages, from pre-kindergarten through to adulthood. With nine ensembles totalling close to 500 singers, the choral group is one of the largest in Metro Vancouver, and enriches the community through the power of music.
The family is made up of three adult choirs: the main Vancouver Bach Choir, the daytime chamber choir Cantabile, and the advanced chamber choir Sarabande. The organization’s children’s ensembles include Piccolini, Piccolo, Toccata, Partita, Chorale, and Chorus.
Tickets to both holiday shows, the Bach Christmas Oratorio and Christmas With the Bach Choir, are now on sale.
