Vancouver Chamber Choir is kicking off 2026 with a bang by presenting the Western Canadian premiere of Timothy Takach’s We Are Phoenix. The piece will appear on a program called I Fall, I Rise at Pacific Spirit United Church on January 24 at 7:30 pm.
This exhilarating new multimedia work for choir and strings explores themes of perseverance, renewal, and inner strength. Video projections are paired with the live music, which features poetry from multiple authors that illuminates connections between humans and the Earth.
Led by artistic director Kari Turunen, I Fall, I Rise features the Vancouver Chamber Choir’s annual FOCUS choir composed of post-secondary singers from the Lower Mainland, as well as the winners of the 17th biennial Young Composers’ Competition. Soloists gracing the stage include violinists Georgina Leo and Rebecca Ruthven, violist Catherine Chen, and cellist Jake Klinkenborg.
