Vancouver Chamber Choir sings Sonnets by the Sea, June 6

Season-closing concert features guest artist Christopher Gaze and a world premiere by composer Thuthuka Sibisi

The Vancouver Chamber Choir brings its 2024-25 season to a close with Sonnets by the Sea, an evening of Shakespeare’s sonnets sung by the seashore, at the Granville Island Stage on June 6 at 7:30 pm.

Adding to the Shakespearian celebration is local legend Christopher Gaze, founding artistic director of Bard on the Beach, who will dazzle audiences between musical selections. Also on the program is a world premiere by composer Thuthuka Sibisi, who audiences may remember from 2023’s Broken Chord presented by DanceHouse and Vancouver New Music.

Vancouver Chamber Choir artistic director Kari Turunen notes in a release that while “there will be an elegant lightness” to Sonnets by the Sea, the subject matter “is as real and relevant as ever, covering love, disappointment and the pains of creating art”.
