Alliance Française Vancouver will welcome the Illyes Ferfera Quartet for a jazz concert on November 13 at 7:30 pm. Audience members will hear Tawazûn, which translates to “balance” in Arabic, the debut album of French-Algerian saxophonist Illyes Ferfera. Tawazûn reflects the quartet’s exploration of harmony between cultures and sounds.
Joined by pianist Simon Chivallon, double bassist Arthur Henn, and drummer Tom Peyron, the quartet weaves together hypnotic North African melodies, elegant European sounds, and energetic North American and Latin American improvisational jazz. The result is music that is both profound and universal.
The Illyes Ferfera Quartet has performed on some of Paris’s most iconic stages and at Jazz in Marciac, a festival in southern France. This Vancouver stop, presented in partnership with Infidels Jazz, is part of a Canadian tour that also includes stops in Calgary, Winnipeg, Toronto, Montreal, Halifax, and Moncton.
Tickets are available through Alliance Française Vancouver.
