The Atlantic Jazz Collective is a group of three Juno Award–winning artists from Canada’s Atlantic region: pianist Florian Hoefner, saxophonist Mike Murley, and bassist Jim Vivian.
The collective’s mission is to develop and promote jazz on the East Coast through exciting international collaborations. Its first project features revered U.K.-based vocalist Norma Winstone (a collaborator of Kenny Wheeler) and legendary drummer Joe LaBarbera (a collaborator of Bill Evans).
As part of a cross-Canada tour, the Atlantic Jazz Collective will perform at Capilano University’s BlueShore Financial Centre for the Performing Arts on May 10 at 7:30 pm. The collective will showcase tracks from its sublime new release Seascape, which includes reimagined works by Wheeler, Maria Schneider, John Taylor, Ralph Towner, and others. Winstone has written original lyrics to these previously instrumental pieces, offering listeners the chance to gain new perspectives on classic compositions.
Tickets are available through the BlueShore at CapU.
