Cantare Super Orchestram presents selections from Bach’s Passions and Benevoli’s Missa Tu Es Petrus for 16 voices at the Holy Rosary Cathedral on April 5 at 2 pm.
A dramatic integration of scripture, poetry, and hymns, Bach’s sublime settings create a portrayal of Passion that is both profoundly human and divine. The St John Passion and St Matthew Passion, which tell the Biblical story of Jesus’s crucifixion, are two of Bach’s most famous pieces of sacred music.
Directed by conductor Paula DeWit and concertmaster Chloe Meyers, the concert will feature a special collection of Baroque instruments—traverso (Baroque flute), Baroque bassoon, harpsichord, and lute—along with the violin, viola, cello, and bass. Among the 16 vocalists are sopranos Sonja Strimbei and Sylwia Karwowska, alto Dinah Ayre, bass Richard Williams, and countertenor Erik Kallo will be featured as soloists.
Join the CSO in experiencing this contemplative music live in a beautiful setting.
