This month, Chapel Sound Art Foundation is hosting a variety of electronic-music events as part of Notebook SEASON ♪ 2025, curated by Veron Xio (a.k.a. x/o). Four events featuring local and international experimental artists—spanning electronic performances, talks, and workshops—are in store throughout the rest of November.
The first of two performances is Animistic Beliefs (Live) and Gulod Tanawin (Live) at the Roundhouse Community Arts & Recreation Centre on November 22 at 8 pm. The evening will investigate new sonic rituals that emerge when ancestral memory meets club experimentation. Using traditional and contemporary sonic techniques, the artists will explore the convergence of decolonial sound, queer futurity, and embodied ceremony.
Animistic Beliefs is a Rotterdam, Netherlands–based duo that is inventing a new Creole musical language by repurposing forms from IDM (intelligent dance music) and global club to create exhilarating hybrids. Gulod Tanawin—which means “hilltop viewpoint” in Tagalog—is a collective experiment that draws inspiration from both Filipinx soundsystem culture and martial arts, working across dub, ragatak, budots, and live instrumentation.
Chapel Sound and IndieFest will present a second performance, Future Mythologies with 8ULENTINA & Embaci (Live) joined by MIIIA and Melt (Live A/V), at the Annex on November 26 at 7:30 pm. Future Mythologies is an annual showcase for celebrating works in development that redefine the future of storytelling, becoming the myths of tomorrow. Through live performance and visuals, the artists will explore intersections of new sounds and folklore.
Elsewhere, Chapel Sound and Resonance present Speaker Music (Live Set + Q&A) and Animistic Beliefs (Artist Talk) on November 19 at 6:30 pm at Emily Carr University of Art + Design’s Integrated Motion Studio. Moderated by Vanessa Kwan and Vanessa Fajemisin, this three-hour event will explore themes of diasporic memory, sonic philosophy, and radical rhythm.
A variety of workshops will also take place this month. Among them is Inside the Mix With Kevin Mah, revolving around techniques in EQ and sound design, at Atelier 254 on November 15 at 3 pm. This workshop will cover how to carve cleaner mixes, design unique sound textures, and unlock the latest tools Ableton 12 has to offer.
Earlier this month, the 2025 Notebook season launched with Vocal Architectures, a workshop on vocal recording, glitching, and processing with Prado, at Atelier 254.
