Early Music Vancouver (EMV) presents Bach Ties the Knot, a captivating exploration of J.S. Bach’s wedding-related works, at St. Andrew’s-Wesley United Church on February 15 at 3 pm. Part of EMV’s 2025 LUMEN Festival, this concert features renowned German soprano Dorothee Mields alongside the Pacific Baroque Orchestra directed by Alexander Weimann.
Mields is set to perform Bach’s Cantata BWV 202, “Weichet nur” (possibly composed for his wedding to Anna Magdalena) alongside the world premiere of her own Fictive Wedding Cantata, “O großes Hochzeitsfest!”.
The LUMEN Festival takes place from February 14 to 16. Two more concerts in store include Draw on Sweet Night with U.K. ensemble VOCES8 on February 14, and Huehuetenango: Music from 16th Century Guatemala on February 16.
Bach Ties the Knot also features a pre-concert chat with Mields and Weimann, hosted by Suzie LeBlanc at 2:30 pm.
