POWERHOUSE VOCALIST Krystle Dos Santos premiered her song-and-storytelling production A History of Motown at the Firehall earlier this year to rave reviews. The artist, who grew up listening to such soul icons as Aretha Franklin and Etta James, expands on the cultural context behind the creation of Motown music through era-defining hits by the Supremes, Stevie Wonder, and more.
“I’ve had all the influences that I’ve ever needed, and that voice has always existed. I just needed to find it for myself,” she told Stir in our preview of the show here. Later, we described A History of Motown as “a fun, interactive experience that brings audiences to their feet” with a nice balance of danceable tunes and explanations of the record label’s history.
Audiences are in for a treat this holiday season, as Dos Santos is bringing Motown faves back to the Firehall stage with a festive concert called A Very Merry Motown. She’ll be accompanied in the show by fellow vocalists Stephen Scaccia and Josh Wyper, drummer Jon Holisko, keyboardist Cole Tinney, guitarist Gavin Youngash, and saxophonist Dominic Conway. They’ll be putting their own special spin on “’Twas the Night Before Christmas”, amping up the storytelling aspect of the poem with musical interludes.
The family-friendly show will be on from December 17 to 28; it runs about two hours with an intermission midway, so you can top up on drinks and snacks at the bar. ![]()
