The Firehall announces Cindy Reid as new managing director

Formerly of the Improv Centre and The Cultch, among other spots, Reid is also an active volunteer in the local arts community

THE FIREHALL ARTS CENTRE has a new incoming managing director. Today, the organization’s artistic and executive producer, Donna Spencer, and The Firehall’s board of directors announced the appointment of Cindy Reid to the position. She starts her new role on August 2.

Reid joins The Firehall from The Improv Centre, where she has been interim co-general manager since June 2021. Prior to that, she was the managing director at The Cultch for 12 years and producing manager at Electric Company Theatre for five years. Reid is an active volunteer in the local arts community, currently serving as board president of Company 605.

Reid has a deep connection to the visual arts as well, being the daughter of commercial artist Bob Reid and niece of Haida artist Bill Reid.

In a release, The Firehall pointed to her particular interests in community building and developing efficient financial and HR systems as among the assets she brings to the long-standing organization.

“I have known Cindy for a long time, having worked with her on the Greater Vancouver Theatre Alliance board and in her previous positions,” Spencer said in the release. “Cindy’s knowledge and experience in human resources, venue management and fund development, coupled with her passion for the arts, makes her a great addition to the Firehall team.”

Reid said: “I have long admired the work that Donna has done here at The Firehall. And I am thrilled to be collaborating on the future of the centre. Building on the strong platform of accessibility, diversity and inclusivity is particularly exciting, and I am very much looking forward to joining the team.”
