Théâtre la Seizième and Alliance Française Vancouver are copresenting Parler mal by Moncton’s Théâtre Gauche. Performances are taking place on February 6 and 7 at Alliance Française Vancouver.

What is “good” French? Is there one correct way of expressing oneself, one accent that is above the rest? In Parler Mal, Bianca Richard and Gabriel Robichaud—two Acadians from southeastern New Brunswick—face their linguistic insecurities and sift through the stigma of being “bad francophones”. Through delightfully offbeat and skillfully documented scenes, Parler mal exposes with humour, yet painfully at times, the biases that exist surrounding language.

While the performance on February 6 at 7:30 pm is sold out, a free conference on linguistic insecurity is taking place at the venue starting at 6 pm. It will be open to all and hosted in French by UBC’s Marie-Eve Bouchard.

Learn more about the production, purchase tickets to the show on February 7 at 2 pm, or join a waitlist for the February 6 show through Théâtre la Seizième.
