The Vancouver Chamber Choir presents recent audience favourites alongside fresh new music at Fresh Ink at Pacific Spirit United Church on May 9 at 7:30 pm.
This concert is a celebration of music that has been commissioned, premiered, and introduced in Canada by Kari Turunen and the Vancouver Chamber Choir over the past five years; it also serves as a preview of an upcoming recording project. Audiences may remember pieces like Tawnie Olson’s “Beloved of the Sky”, Chris Sivak’s “Alouette Meets Her Maker”, and former composer-in-residence Andrew Balfour’s “Kiyam”.
Audiences will also be treated to the world premiere of “Your Name is Water” by current composer-in-residence laura hawley, and the Vancouver premieres of works by Rebecca Hass, Katharine Petkovski, and Oskar Österling. While on tour earlier this year, the choir worked with the latter three composers as part of Soundstreams’ RBC Bridges Emerging Composers Program in Toronto.
Tickets to Fresh Ink are available through the Vancouver Chamber Choir.
