Vancouver Chamber Choir presents Swan Song, an ode to German Baroque composer Heinrich Schütz (1585–1672), at Christ Church Cathedral on March 6 at 7:30 pm.
Following the success of last year’s Palestrina 500 program, which celebrated the remarkable 16th-century Italian composer Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina, the choir returns with another spotlight concert—this time highlighting Schütz. The program consists of his final composition, a monumental setting of Psalm 119 from his Schwanengesang (“swan song”) collection, which was completed just a year before his death.
Organist Neil Cockburn and theorbo player Konstantin Bozhinov will join the Vancouver Chamber Choir for this concert. Originally from Scotland, Cockburn was a regular performer with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra for more than two decades and became music director of Christ Church Cathedral in 2025. Bozhinov, a Bulgarian multi-instrumentalist, is well-versed in playing Balkan folk music and Celtic traditional tunes.
