Vancouver New Music presents Artifacts I: Zero Input Enclosure Movement (ZIEM), a multichannel sculptural sound installation by Winnipeg-based multidisciplinary artist AO Roberts, at the Annex on February 14.
Using a zero-input mixing technique (where a sound system’s output is fed back into its input), ZIEM amplifies unstable systems of feedback and produces oscillating drones within a provisional sculptural structure. The concert will begin with a short piece from the instrument, and then guest artists RITUAL PURIFICATION and Sainerine will present a collaborative performance with the installation.
ZIEM is curated by Vancouver’s Anju Singh, who was mentored by Diné composer Raven Chacon as part of Vancouver New Music’s On Curation Mentorship Project, which supports experimental and forward-thinking approaches to sound and music curation.
A pre-show artist talk takes place at 7:15 pm with Roberts and Singh. The performance starts at 8 pm.
Tickets and more details are available here.
