The VSO hosts pianist Zlata Chochieva for Mozart & Shostakovich 11, November 28 and 30
Conductor Joshua Weilerstein leads the concert, with a program featuring works by Shostakovich, Mozart, and Canadian composer Samy Moussa
Zlata Chochieva
The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra presents Mozart & Shostakovich 11 at the Orpheum on November 28 at 7 pm and November 30 at 2 pm.
Fresh off her Carnegie Hall debut, pianist Zlata Chochieva will play Mozart’s dark and stormy Piano Concerto No. 20. Born in Moscow and now based in Berlin, Chochieva has a remarkably extensive repertoire of about 60 concerti. She has performed with numerous major orchestras, from the Copenhagen Philharmonic to the National Symphony Orchestra of Taiwan.
The VSO’s upcoming program—led by conductor Joshua Weilerstein—also includes Shostakovich’s powerful Symphony No. 11, a profound reflection on the Russian Revolution of 1905. Canadian composer Samy Moussa’s Adgilis Deda rounds out the offerings, evoking a sense of maternal protection.
The concert on November 28 is part of the Musically Speaking series, while the concert on November 30 is part of RGF Integrated Wealth Management Symphony Sundays.
