Ballet BC’s MOMENTUM Gala returns for 2023, June 24
Dance, music, food, and more all part of the fundraising bash at Rocky Mountaineer Station

BALLET BC’S MOMENTUM gala is unlike any other: the dance-focused fete will feature new performances by the company’s members, led by artistic director Medhi Walerski. And that’s just the start of the event on June 24 at the 12,000-square-foot Rocky Mountaineer Station.
Food to pair with the compelling choreography is being provided by the evening’s exclusive caterer, The Lazy Gourmet. Live music is part of the program, as are a live and silent auction.
Co-chairs Julian Scott and Samantha Cunliffe and Ballet BC’s MOMENTUM gala committee are inviting attendees to dress to the nines as they get the chance to mingle with Ballet BC artists.
There are also hints at a few surprises and French twist.
“We are excited to reconnect with our community in Vancouver for a wonderful night of dance,” says Kim Spencer-Nairn, managing director of Ballet BC, says in a release. “After exceeding our goal last year, this year we are hoping to raise $450,000, which will help us continue to share dance on international stages and provide opportunities for emerging arts and choreographers to develop their artistry.”
A prize draw open to anyone is for a VRAI Diamond Tennis Bracelet, at 4.40-carat diamonds within a 14k white gold setting valued at over $9,000. Fred Lee and Tamara Taggart will host the event.
As previously reported by Stir, Ballet B.C.’s 2023-24 season includes including an epic 50-person piece, Shahar Binyamini’s BOLERO X—a in which Ballet BC expands its corps with Arts Umbrella Dance. There will be four world premieres, by Walerski, Stephen Shropshire, Micaela Taylor, and Vancouver’s own Out Innerspace Dance Theatre.
Funds will go toward the next chapter for Ballet B.C. Since 2009, the company has developed a repertoire of more than 50 new works by esteemed Canadian and international choreographers.
