New Works, in partnership with Mardon + Mitsuhashi and the Roundhouse Community Arts and Recreation Centre, presents the world premiere of good loser. This captivating full-length performance is onstage November 20 and 21 at 7:30 pm.
Choreographed and performed by Alexa Solveig Mardon, good loser is a high-energy, scored improvisation featuring a dynamic duet between dancer Mardon and live drummer Jen Yakamovich. Together, they navigate a continuous, unpredictable flow of movement and sound—ranging from delicate, nuanced gestures and real-time storytelling to expansive dance and powerful rhythmic soundscapes. The performance serves as an open invitation to embrace life’s inevitable shifts, sharing honest reflections on vulnerability and presence.
Rich visual storytelling unfolds through original sculptural and costume design by Jaewoo Kang and Tess Rafael, complemented by Gillian Hanemeyer’s evocative lighting design. Dramaturgical support is provided by long-standing collaborator Erika Mitsuhashi, alongside Finnish artist Even Minn and Slovenian artist Mala Kline.
