Montreal-raised, New York-based saxophonist and composer Chet Doxas will lead large and small ensembles of up-and-coming CapU Jazz Studies students on October 24 at BlueShore at CapU.

Doxas, who has become one of the most well-respected and sought-after saxophonists of his generation, is best known for his ability to add his unique voice to a wide variety of musical settings and styles. He co-led the group Riverside with trumpeter Dave Douglas for several years; their second album features Carla Bley on piano. Doxas’s other bands include his trio, Doxas Brothers Quartet, Landline, Rich in Symbols, Larum, and the Ceremonial Sextet.

Doxas has released 14 albums as a leader and co-leader and has appeared on more than 100 recordings by others, including John Abercrombie, Rufus Wainwright, Maria Schneider, Sam Roberts Band, and Oliver Jones. He has been nominated for multiple Juno Awards and was also featured on the Grammy and Academy Award–nominated soundtrack Les Triplettes de Belleville
