Commissioned under mysterious circumstances and left unfinished at his death, Mozart’s Requiem remains one of classical music’s most powerful and enigmatic works. Composed during his final days in 1791, it carries the emotional and spiritual weight of a life’s culmination—an extraordinary blend of operatic drama, sublime vocal writing, and sacred tradition.
On August 8 at the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts, Early Music Vancouver presents this legendary work as the climactic finale of its Summer Festival, themed Bach and Mozart: In Endless Ascent. This performance features a compelling new completion by British conductor Howard Arman, who expands on Mozart’s genius while honouring the familiar Süßmayr version.
Under the direction of Alexander Weimann, this EMV debut features soprano Magali Simard-Galdès, mezzo-soprano Emma Parkinson, tenor Jacob Perry, and baritone Drew Santini, alongside the Pacific Baroque Orchestra and Vancouver Cantata Singers. In a radiant celebration of EMV’s 55th anniversary, it honours the enduring ascent of great music.
Tickets are available through EMV.
