This fall, Metro Theatre raises the curtain on an exciting new season with a vibrant production of Jonathan Larson’s groundbreaking rock musical RENT, running September 5 to 20.

Directed by Shel Piercy, choreographed by Shelley Stewart Hunt, and with music direction by Sylvia Zaradic, this marks the first major Vancouver staging of RENT in seven years—a long-awaited return for its devoted fan base.

RENT became an instant cultural phenomenon when it opened in 1996 on the 100th anniversary of Puccini’s La bohème, the opera that inspired it. The musical’s raw, unflinching portrayal of struggling artists living under the shadow of the HIV/AIDS crisis in New York’s East Village broke new ground in musical theatre.

With its heartfelt story and electrifying music, RENT promises to be an unforgettable experience for both longtime fans and newcomers alike.
