All-women ensemble Solidaridad Tango brings Tango Fantasia to the Shadbolt Centre, April 18
Celebration of sound and dance sets music from the Golden Age of tango alongside modern gems
Solidaridad Tango
The Shadbolt Centre for the Arts presents Solidaridad Tango’s Tango Fantasia, a performance by Canada’s only all-women tango ensemble, on April 18 at 7:30 pm.
Tango Fantasia takes audience members on a passionate journey from the grand salons of Buenos Aires to the streets of Toronto. Featuring music from the Golden Age, rare gems by Piazzolla, and the best of contemporary tango from Argentina and Canada, this show is a captivating musical feast.
Solidaridad Tango was founded in 2021 by violinist Aparna Halpé to create fair work, professional development, and performance opportunities for women tango musicians. Solidaridad presents new music by women tango composers from around the world, with a focus on historic Golden Age style.
The group consists of Halpé, vocalist Valeria Matzner, bandoneón player Shinjoo Cho, pianist Yolanda Tapia, and bassist Sarah Lahasky, with dance performances by Tarek Marroushi and Estie Spivakov.
