The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra presents Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto at the Orpheum on October 17 and 18 at 7:30 pm as part of the Edward Jones Masterworks Gold series.

Mendelssohn’s final concerto ranks among the top violin concertos of all time, impeccably bridging Classical and Romantic styles. For this concert, American-Russian violinist Maria Ioudenitch will breathe new life into the perennial favourite. She captured international attention in 2021 when she received first prizes at the Ysaÿe International Music Competition, Tibor Varga International Violin Competition, and Joseph Joachim Violin Competition.

The VSO program will also include Bruckner’s Symphony No. 5. The Austrian composer’s symphonies are often called “Cathedrals of Sound”, and his fifth is no exception, culminating in what is often regarded as one of the most triumphant finales ever composed.

German conductor Constantin Trinks will be at the podium leading audience members on this journey of mystery and grandeur.

Tickets are available through the VSO.
