Vines Art Festival returns for 2022, fusing the arts with activism outdoors
The 8th annual multidisciplinary event features more than 100 artists working toward land, water, and relational justice
VINES ART FESTIVAL is back for its eighth year. The all-ages festival of performing arts and land, water, and relational justice happens from August 3 to 13 in various Vancouver parks with accessible online streaming. All events are free.
The 2022 fest features more than 100 performing and visual artists who are working toward generational healing through their creative projects.
It all kicks off with the opening ceremonies on August 3 at 6 pm at St'ít'eweḵw' (Second Beach), with Kinfolk Nation, Tzo’kam, and Balam.
Led by the artists of the Downtown Eastside, Forged by Us takes place August 4 at 6 pm at Ḵ’emḵ’emel̓áy̓ (OppenheimerPark). Showcasing the vibrancy of the neighbourhood and the power of self-determination, the evening features Michelle Heyoka, SoyJoy, and VANDU.
We, The Many highlights 2SLGBTIQIA+ history, existence, and art with drag, music, and dance on August 5 at 6 pm at Í7iy̓ el̓ shn (Sunset Beach) with House of Rice and DJ Nea.
Now in its sixth year, Resilient Roots showcases a brand new cohort of Indigenous artists and mentors who are bringing new projects to life. Look for mitcholos touchie, Edzi’u, and TJ Felix on August 11 at 6 pm at Grandview Park.
When We Were takes place on August 12 at 6 pm in X̱ í7nam̓ ut (New Brighton Park), with stories of the land being shared by Tonye Aganaba, KeAloha, and more.
A proclamation of tomorrow brings people together to close the fest. Our Tended Harvest, on August 13 at 1:30 pm at Trout Lake Park, celebrates the garden of community. Kung Jaadee, Janelle Reid, and Mad Riddim will perform.
Many Vines Art Festival events have ASL or are blind- and low-vision friendly.
