Boca del Lupo hosts Lisa Cooke Ravensbergen's The Seventh Fire, April 2 to 5
In partnership with the Talking Stick Festival, Neworld Theatre’s surround-sound audio production draws on traditional Anishinaabe stories

Vancouver’s Boca del Lupo presents the second show in its 2025 Micro Performance Series, Lisa Cooke Ravensbergen’s The Seventh Fire, in partnership with the Talking Stick Festival. The Seventh Fire is an immersive, surround-sound audio performance that sources traditional oral Anishinaabe stories and societal roles as a way to evoke ceremony in the everyday. Performances run from April 2 to 5 at The NEST on Granville Island, with showtimes at 2 pm and 7 pm.
Cooke Ravensbergen’s creation blurs time and space, bringing emotional and ancestral connection into being through deep collaboration with sound designer Mishelle Cuttler and a matriarchal creative team. The Seventh Fire takes place in the past, present, and future, above and below the earth. It is the realm of the spirit, where a better future can be co-conceived.
When audience members enter the space, they are free to stand, sit, lie down, or move around according to their ability. As The Seventh Fire commences, the sound system envelops all, serving as a portal to dreams and the story of sisters Daanis and Nimise and their grandmother Nokomis. The production includes vocal performances by Cooke Ravensbergen, Margo Kane, and Tasha Faye Evans, along with additional vocals by Renae Morriseau and Kaitlyn Yott.
The Seventh Fire is part of Boca del Lupo’s Micro Performance Series, which provides a big impact on audiences through small-scale creations and experiences. These productions are created and performed by local, national, and international artists working across disciplines in intimate and small-scale forms.
Micro Performance is a unique creative style that is adaptable to many forms, from theatre and dance to new media, live art, and interactive technology. The 2025 Micro Performance Series continues in June and July with presentations at the Vancouver International Children’s Festival and Indian Summer Festival, respectively.
The Seventh Fire is a Neworld Theatre touring production that was originally produced by Delinquent Theatre and Full Circle: First Nations Performance, in association with Neworld Theatre. It was created with the support of the PuSh International Performing Arts Festival.
